Type Installation Command

In the Terminal window, the user has positioned the cursor and typed the command:
sudo apt-get install network-manager-openvpn-gnome
Press Enter to install the OpenVPN plugin for GNOME’s Network Manager.

Click “Show Applications”

The mouse pointer clicks the grid icon (nine dots) at the bottom-left to open Ubuntu’s Applications menu.

Search for “Settings”

In the Applications search bar, the user clicks inside the “Type to search” field and types “settings” to locate the Settings app

Click the “Settings” Icon

The mouse pointer clicks the gear icon labeled Settings to launch System Settings.

Click “Network”

Within Settings, the pointer selects “Network” from the left sidebar to open network preferences.

Click the “+” Button

Under the VPN section, click the “+” (plus) button to add a new VPN connection.

Go to Your Panel & Download Config File

In your web browser panel, the pointer clicks the Download button for your VPN provider’s configuration bundle (e.g., .zip or direct .ovpn).

Download & Extract the Compressed File

After downloading, the user opens the Files app, double-clicks the downloaded archive, and then extracts its contents to access the .ovpn file(s).

Go Back to Settings & Import Config File

Return to Settings → Network → VPN, click “+”, choose “Import from file…”, and in the file-chooser, select the extracted .ovpn profile.

Go to Identity Tab & Enter Credentials

In the VPN import dialog, switch to the Identity (or Authentication) tab. Click into the Username and Password fields and enter your VPN login details.
